Wealthy Homeowners Are Leaving Livermore- For Better Climate

Livermore, CA

Owning a home in Livermore, CA over the past decade has come with a new concern, wildfires. Livermore homeowners used to think about earthquakes as a concern for safety to their investment, but not so much anymore. Every year the wildfires have been more and more common and more of a threat to California property. As a wildfire grows in the California foothills it throws of tons of toxic smoke that make its way throughout the state. When its bad, we shut our doors and hunker down inside. As this becomes more and more common, Livermore homeowners are adding it to their reason to make a move.

A great article about the fires and how they have affect homeowners and what they are doing about it came across my desk. In 2017 a couple from Santa Rosa evacuated their home for three weeks because of the fires. In 2019, they cut a trip short in Hawaii to come back and secure their home and animals. The continued concern for their property, potential threat to their property and being evacuated forced them to rent a home in Bend, Oregon during the 2020 fire season. This allowed them a safe place during the fire season. In January 2021, they bought a home in Bend stating that it comes down to feeling safe.

Wealthier homeowners can adapt to these changes

A recent survey of Americans, nearly half of those surveyed plan to move in the next year citing natural disasters and extreme temperatures factored into their decision.
